Esme has battled mental heath challenges since she was a child. Today she lives with schizoaffective disorder as well as late stage Lyme disease. She is the recipient of the Graywolf Nonfiction Prize for her upcoming essay collection, The Collected Schizophrenias, which will be released in February 2019.
