Before diving in, we want to introduce you to the remarkable experts we’ve asked to help us explain the science behind A2A and the power of adversity-driven advocacy. All three are true trailblazers in their fields and have been instrumental advisors to A2A since our founding. For the record, they’re also really good people!

STEPHEN HINSHAW, PhD

Stephen P. Hinshaw, PhD, is a clinical psychologist, researcher, author, and advocate whose work has helped transform understanding of mental health, stigma, resilience, and human flourishing. A professor at both University of California, Berkeley, and University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Hinshaw is a leading expert on ADHD and related mental health conditions, and has spent decades examining how individuals overcome adversity while navigating challenges such as stigma, misunderstanding, and social isolation. He is the author of numerous books, including The Mark of Shame: Stigma of Mental Illness and an Agenda for Change.

DACHER KELTNER, PhD

Dacher Keltner, PhD, is a psychologist, researcher, author, and one of the world’s leading experts on the science of emotions, compassion, and human connection. A professor of psychology at University of California, Berkeley and founding director of the Greater Good Science Center, Dr. Keltner has spent decades studying the emotional and social forces that help individuals and communities thrive. His pioneering research has explored topics such as empathy, compassion, awe, gratitude, and altruism. He is the author of several bestselling books, including Awe and Born to Be Good.

HELEN RIESS, MD

Helen Riess, MD, is a psychiatrist, researcher, author, and internationally recognized leader in the science of empathy. A faculty member at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Riess has dedicated her career to understanding how empathy can be cultivated and applied to improve human relationships, healthcare, and well-being. She is also the founder of Empathetics, an organization that provides evidence-based empathy training to healthcare professionals and organizations around the world. As the author of The Empathy Effect, Dr. Riess has helped bring the science of empathy to a broad audience, showing how greater understanding of others can foster connection, compassion, and healing.
